A group of people coming from de UK sailed across the Atlantic in ship called ''My Flowers''. Landed in Massachussets in 1620. These people, called ''Pilgrim fathers'' Founded 13 colonies: N York , Virginia, N jersey, Massachussets, North and South Carolina... One century later, the colonies declared independent from the UK on July, 4th 1776 and since then this date is called ''Independence day'' and is holidays in the states. In 1789, George Washington was elected as the first president. During the 19 th century it took place the great expansion: Florida was bought to Spain, Lousiana was bought to France Alaska was bought to Russia. At the same time as a consequence of a war with mexico were incorporate California, Texas , n Mexico. Thousands of people began the conquest of the west in search of gold and new states were constitned : Nevada , Washignton, Nebraska... During 1861-1865 happened a very sad event, a Cilvil war between the northem states ( yankees) and the southern states. Yankees won the war and slavery was abolished. The last state which was incorporated was Hawai in 1959.
