light microscope:light passes through lenses to produce the image(200x)
Electron microscope:forms an image using a beam of electrons(200 000x)
Micrograph:image produced by a microscope.
Magnification:quality of making an image larger that its actual size.
Resolution:measure of clarity of an image.
CELL THEORY:
1. all living things are made up of 1 cell.
2. 2. cellas are the basci unit of structure and function.
3. all cells arise from exiting cells.
Prokaryote cells:single celled organisms that lack nucleous and organelles. ex: bacterias.
Eukaryote cells: they have a nucleus and organelles. many have flagella or cilia(for movement).


Movement os substances across the cell membrane form an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
Concentration gradient:difference in concentration of a substance across the space.
Equilibrium:equal concentration throughout the space.
osmosis:diffusion of water molecules through the cell membrane down the concentration gradient.
MOVEMENT OF WATER:
1. outside the cell:water shrinks(hypertonic)
2. inside the cel:cell swells:(hypotonic)
3. no net movement(isotonic)
Active transport: movement against concentration gradient. From an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration requires energy from the cell in form of ATP.
