Past Simple

Se forma añadiendo **-ed** a los verbos regulares y conjugando los irregulares según su forma de *past simple*. Las oraciones interrogativas se construyen con **DID**.

• Se utiliza para hablar de acciones pasadas **que** tuvieron lugar en un momento determinado **que** se especifica a través de expresiones de tiempo pasado: *yesterday*, *last night*, *last year*...
• Narrar una secuencia de hechos pasados: *Yesterday I woke up late, got up quickly, put my clothes on, ran out of the house and took a taxi to work.*

Past Continuous

Se forma con el *past simple* del verbo *to be* + el verbo principal acabado en **-ing**.

• Se usa para describir una actividad **que** estaba ocurriendo en un momento específico del pasado: *At 6 o'clock I was working in the garden.*
• Referirse a una acción pasada que se estaba desarrollando cuando fue interrumpida por otra: *They arrived while we were cooking.*
• Referirse a dos acciones que se estaban desarrollando de manera simultánea en el pasado: *I was dusting the chairs while my sister was vacuuming the carpet.*

Preposiciones

Se pueden colocar:

• Delante de sustantivos: *They arrived **at** the cinema twenty minutes later.*
• Delante de pronombres: *Don't go out **with** them.*
• Delante de gerundios: *She left home **without** knowing where to go.*
• Al final de algunas oraciones interrogativas: *Where do you come **from**?*
• Al final de una oración de relativo cuando se omite el pronombre de relativo: *That's the boy I go out **with**.*

Uso de Preposiciones

Tiempo

• **at**: una hora determinada del día y la edad
• **in**: meses, años, estaciones y partes del día
• **on**: los días de la semana y las fechas

Lugar

• **at**: *at home*, *at the bus stop*
• **in**: *in the drawer*, *in the garden*
• **inside/outside**: *inside/outside the disco*
• **on**: *on the floor*, *on the farm*

Otras preposiciones de lugar

• *on top of*, *above/below*, *between*, *next to/by/beside*, *near (to)*, *in front of*, *opposite*

Duración

• **during**: *He got up during the night.*
• **for**: *They haven't been abroad for five years.*
• **from**: *I work from nine a.m. to six p.m.*
• **since**: *We have been living here since 1999.*
• **until/till**: *She didn't turn up until the next day.* (Significa **HASTA**)

Movimiento o Dirección

• *across*, *along*, *at*, *in*, *into*, *out of*, *over/under*, *through*, *to*, *towards*, *up/down*

• **-ance**: *abundant* - *abundance*, *elegant* - *elegance*...
• **-cy**: *accurate* - *accuracy*, *decent* - *decency*...
• **-ence**: *adolescent* - *adolescence*, *coherent* - *coherence*...
• **-ity**: *complex* - *complexity*, *creative* - *creativity*...
• **-ness**: *aggressive* - *aggressiveness*, *aware* - *awareness*
