Violence in Football: The Red Card as a Solution

When a football player insults the referee, they should be shown the red card. The principal problems in football are physical violence, verbal abuse, and a refusal to accept the rules of the game. When young children watch football on television, they can often see players insulting the referee or attacking other footballers. Children who witness verbal abuse and violence may later cause problems for their teachers. One very good idea is that referees stop bad behaviour with the red card. My Visit to the Statue of Liberty (English)

When I was in New York, I went to the Statue of Liberty and it was so cool. I was very excited, but it ended so fast because my parents told me that we would have to leave in a few days because their company had called them for business, and I was depressed; I didn't want to leave that city — I really loved it!

Before we left, I tried to enjoy it, but I couldn't stop thinking about the trip that would follow. But something happened: I made friends in that city, and one of them was from Colombia, the country where I come from, so we could speak in Spanish; that was awesome! When I came back to Colombia, I had to say goodbye to my friends and to the wonderful places I had visited, but at least I returned with that friend I had met. It was an awesome experience I would never like to forget.

Mi experiencia en la Estatua de la Libertad (Español)

Cuando estaba en Nueva York, fui a la Estatua de la Libertad y eso fue impresionante. Estaba tan emocionado, pero esa emoción se terminó muy rápido porque mis padres me dijeron que nos tendríamos que ir en unos pocos días porque la empresa donde trabajaban los había llamado para un negocio, y yo me deprimí; no quería salir de esa ciudad. ¡En serio me encantó!

Bueno, antes de que nos fuéramos, traté de disfrutarlo todo, pero no podía dejar de pensar en el viaje que sucedería. ¡Pero algo pasó! Conseguí amigos allí y uno de ellos vivía en Colombia, país de donde vengo, y pudimos hablar en español, lo cual fue asombroso. Cuando regresé a Colombia, tuve que despedirme de mis amigos y de los maravillosos lugares que visité, pero al menos regresé con ese amigo que conocí. Fue una maravillosa experiencia que no quisiera olvidar nunca.

Reflexión final

La conducta en el deporte tiene un impacto directo en los espectadores, especialmente en los niños. Tanto en el fútbol como en otras actividades públicas, las sanciones claras —como la tarjeta roja— y el ejemplo de deportividad pueden contribuir a reducir la violencia y el abuso verbal que se replican fuera del campo.
