Hello, my name is Alexander, and I am going to explain what soccer is.

Introduction to Soccer

Soccer is a team sport made up of 10 players and one goalkeeper. This sport is considered the most popular sport in the world due to the large number of spectators it has.

Soccer consists of putting the ball into the goal of the rival team without the other team taking the ball from you and without letting them put it into your goal.

Player Positions on the Field

The 11 players are placed on the field and are distributed into 4 main positions:

  • The Goalkeeper: Has the function of preventing the ball from entering the goal and can use his hands.
  • The Defender: Tries to stop the opposing players so that the ball does not pass to his goal.
  • The Midfielder: Is in charge of moving the ball through the center of the field and supporting both attack and defense.
  • The Forward: Has the function of attacking to score goals in the rival goal and thus be able to win.

Match Duration

A match consists of two halves of forty-five minutes each, meaning the match lasts over ninety minutes in total. Between each half, there is a fifteen-minute break.

Main Rules of the Sport

Now I am going to talk about the main rules of this sport:

  • Out of Bounds: If the ball goes out of bounds on the sideline, it is considered a throw-in with which the other team will restart play. If the ball goes out of bounds along the goal line, it results in a corner kick taken by an opposing player from the corner of the football field.
  • Fouls and Penalties: If a player attacks another player or makes an illegal move, he will be penalized with a free kick that can be shot directly into the goal or passed to a teammate. However, if the foul was committed inside the goalkeeper's area, a penalty kick will be awarded. Additionally, the player who carried out the aggression may receive a yellow or red card depending on the seriousness of the offense.

The Role of Referees

The referees play a very important role in the sport. They are the ones who control the matches to ensure that nothing illegal happens and no cheating is done. The referees control if the ball goes outside the field lines, manage fouls, give cards to the players, control substitutions, and keep track of the score, among other responsibilities.

Major Football Competitions

Now I am going to make a brief summary of the most important football competitions, which for me are La Liga, the Premier League, the Champions League, and the World Cup.

La Liga

La Liga is the first division of Spanish football where around twenty teams compete against each other to get the highest score to win the title. Its most representative clubs are Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Premier League

The Premier League is the first division of English football, currently considered the best league in the world. Like La Liga, 20 teams compete against each other to achieve the highest score, with top representatives such as Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool.

Champions League

The Champions League is a European competition where the best clubs from each country play. In this competition, there are knockout phases where each team eliminates another to advance to the next round and win the title. Its greatest representative is Real Madrid, followed by AC Milan and Bayern Munich.

The World Cup

Finally, the World Cup is a global competition where the best national teams from each continent play. This competition is held every 4 years and features knockout rounds where each country eliminates the others to win the coveted World Cup trophy.

And that concludes my oral presentation. I hope you liked it.
