Uso del Gerundio e Infinitivo en Inglés

El Gerundio

Forma: Verbo en -ing. Negación: not + gerundio

Usos:

• Como sujeto de la oración.
• Como complemento directo (CD) después de verbos como: continue, enjoy, finish, like, love, miss, prefer, recommend, suggest.
• Después de preposiciones (Ejemplo: about + gerundio).
• Después de expresiones como: can't help, can't stand, feel like, it's no use, get used to, look forward to, spend, don't mind.

El Infinitivo

Forma: to + verbo en infinitivo.

Usos:

• Como sujeto de la oración.
• Después de verbos como: agree, appear, choose, decide, seem, expect, hope, learn, manage, plan, promise, refuse, want, wish.
• Después de adjetivos (Ejemplos: busy, happy, ready, tired...).
• Después de adverbios (Ejemplos: slowly, fast, low,

La Voz Pasiva en Inglés

La voz pasiva es muy frecuente en inglés. Se usa:

• Para resaltar que la acción es más importante que el sujeto que la realiza.
• Cuando no hace falta mencionar al sujeto que realiza la acción, o bien es desconocido, poco importante o no se le quiere nombrar.
• Para evitar una frase activa cuyo sujeto sea they, somebody, nobody…

¿Cómo se Forma?

• Como sujeto se pone el complemento directo de la frase activa.
• A continuación, se pone el verbo TO BE en el mismo tiempo que tenía el verbo principal en la voz activa + el Participio Pasado del mismo verbo.
• Si se quiere nombrar al sujeto/complemento agente de la voz pasiva se utiliza la preposición by (si es pronombre personal se pondrá el pronombre objeto).

Condicionales: 1º tipo: if + present simple + will. 2ºtipo: if + pasado simple + would. 3º tipo: if + past perfect + would have participio.

Smoking is not only an expensive and bad habit for our health but also is something that bothers people in public places, although I also believe that smokers have the right to have a place to smoke in public places.

From my point of view, if smokers had a place to smoke, they would not smoke around non-smokers, therefore there should be public places that allow smokers to smoke quietly without bothering non-smokers, so they could avoid these problems between smokers and passive smokers.

On the other hand, smokers may try to quit smoking because it would be good for their pockets and lungs and so we would all be much better because for example I can´t stand the smoke snuff but unfortunately I´m used to it.
