Simple Present (Presente Simple)

Afirmativa: Sujeto + verbo en presente (agrega -s con "he, she, it") + complemento. ✅ She works in an office.

Negativa: Sujeto + do/does + not + verbo en base + complemento. ❌ She does not work in an office.

Interrogativa: Do/Does + sujeto + verbo en base + complemento? ❓ Does she work in an office?

Usos del Presente Simple

  1. Habits and routines. Used to describe actions that occur regularly. Example: She goes to the gym every morning.
  2. General facts and universal truths. To express things that are always true. The sun rises in the east.
  3. Schedules and fixed programs. Used to talk about transportation schedules, events, or scheduled activities. Example: The train leaves at 8 p.m.
  4. Instructions and directions. To give orders or instructions in manuals or recipes. Example: You turn left at the next street.

Simple Past (Pasado Simple)

Afirmativa: Sujeto + verbo en pasado (-ed o forma irregular) + complemento. ✅ She worked in an office.

Negativa: Sujeto + did not + verbo en base + complemento. ❌ She did not work in an office.

Interrogativa: Did + sujeto + verbo en base + complemento? ❓ Did she work in an office?

Is used to describe actions or situations that occurred at a specific time in the past.

Usos del Pasado Simple

  • Completed actions in the past. To talk about events that occurred and ended at a specific time. Ejemplo: She visited Paris last year.
  • Series of events in the past. To describe several actions that occurred in sequence. Example: He woke up, took a shower, and left for work.
  • Action of a specific duration in the past. To talk about something that lasted a period of time in the past. Example: They lived in New York for five years.
  • Habits or routines in the past. To describe habits that no longer occur. Example: When I was a child, I played soccer every weekend.
  • Past events or truths in the past. To talk about information that was true in the past, but that may have changed. Example: Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago.
  • Stories and narratives in the past. To tell tales, stories, or historical events. Example: Once upon a time, there was a brave knight.

Present Continuous (Presente Continuo)

Afirmativa: Sujeto + am/is/are + verbo en -ing + complemento. ✅ She is working in an office.

Negativa: Sujeto + am/is/are not + verbo en -ing + complemento. ❌ She is not working in an office.

Interrogativa: Am/Is/Are + sujeto + verbo en -ing + complemento? ❓ Is she working in an office?

Is used to describe actions in progress or temporary situations. It is formed with the verb "to be" in the present + verb in -ing.

Usos del Presente Continuo

  1. Actions in progress at the time of speaking. Used to describe something that is happening right now. Example: She is talking on the phone right now.
  2. Temporary actions. For events that occur over a short period of time, although not necessarily at this moment. Example: I am studying for my exams these days.
  3. Future plans or arrangements. Used for events already scheduled in the near future. Example: We are traveling to Spain next week.
  4. Situations that change or evolve. To talk about changes or trends. Example: The weather is getting colder.
  5. Repetitive actions with annoyance (with "always"). Used with always to express annoyance or that something happens frequently. Example: He is always leaving his clothes on the floor.
