Common Essay Topics in English Writing Practice

1. Is It Easy to Get Addicted to Unhealthy Habits When You Are Young?

It is very easy to get addicted to bad habits, such as the consumption of snuff (tobacco), when we are young, due to several factors:

  • When one of your friends smokes, I often say that, unless you do too, you are not cool. In this way, it becomes more cool for young people to become addicted to smoking. Then, when they realize that it is no good trying to quit these bad habits, it is too late.
  • Another reason why people become addicted to bad habits when young is the desire to try everything. This means that many things are tested, and after one does them, one simply becomes addicted to them.

In conclusion, all bad habits are likely to be adopted by young people for these reasons, among others.

2. Advantages and Disadvantages of Using the Internet When You Study

The Internet helps a lot to study a subject, but in the long term, because when we look something up, we save time, and there is no time wasted on doubts or on searching for additional information.

  • It has advantages, such as searching for information to perform exercises that we alone would not be able to do, expanding our notes, or even checking the notes we have taken to verify that the information is not false.
  • By contrast, we must know how to search, because the information can be wrong and may seek to mislead us. Also, there is the loss of time and the distraction it causes us if we end up playing Internet games.

In conclusion, the Internet has many advantages for studying, but we must use it wisely, because it becomes a disadvantage if we waste our time on games.

3. What Is Your Opinion About Sexist Violence?

Gender violence is an issue that is very present in our world. Almost every day someone dies in Spain as a result of gender violence.

  • Gender violence is currently committed against women in general, who are beaten by wicked men who are simply not good people, whether because of alcohol or because they are simply happier mistreating their wives.
  • However, it is not always the man who beats a woman. There are also women who abuse their husbands, although not as many as men who beat their wives.

In conclusion, gender violence is a serious problem that should be eradicated through a shift in the thinking of society as soon as possible.

4. Unemployment Is the Biggest Problem in Spain

Unemployment is one of the biggest problems in Spain because of the serious international crisis experienced by the global economy and by our country, caused by the fall of the construction sector.

  • Many construction companies have gone bankrupt and, having no money, have laid off all their workers. This has caused the large increase in unemployment in Spain, and these workers often have no qualifications to work in anything else.
  • The government has provided some aid to these firms, such as the "Plan E", but this was not enough to solve the crisis, because the number of unemployed people in Spain is very large.

In conclusion, Spain is in the process of solving its unemployment problem, but there is still a long wait ahead, because this is a slow process.
