1. Carta formal al Ministro de Medio Ambiente

A formal letter to the Minister of the Environment, stating your opinion about pollution in your country. Suggest what young people could do to improve the situation.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to you about a controversial issue: pollution in our cities and towns nowadays. As a young person, I am very worried about this situation. The environment is so polluted that we are suffering more and more illnesses related to it.

Last week, we had a meeting to talk about solutions, and I spoke on behalf of young people.

The problems should be faced step by step. First, to avoid so much traffic in the cities, public transport should be promoted, so people do not have to use their cars. In addition, a network of roads for bicycles would be perfect to reduce contamination.

Another point is to support laws that will control industrial waste. The government should invest money in research and demand specialists to find a way of getting rid of dangerous chemicals.

FASHION TRENDS IN YOUR SCHOOL

Hi Mark,

Last week, German students came to my high school as part of a cultural exchange. I found the way they live very interesting: they are very independent and open-minded.

You cannot imagine the variety of trends in my high school. Some people's goal is being respectful with the environment. They demand solutions to its problems and are activists on this issue. However, other people's priorities are creating their own music group and launching it.

I was impressed by a group interested in cultural movements such as literature, painting, sculpture, photography, and so on. They are always performing plays and promoting painting or photography exhibitions. It is amazing how they work. They invite people to discuss social problems and support them. They earn some money through their activities and finally donate some of the profits to associations or people in need.

I am sure you would like them.

Hope to see you soon.

3. Una persona a la que admiras

Two years ago, I met a wise and kind man. He was 85 years old and he was my friend's grandfather. He grew up in a poor family, but he became a lawyer thanks to his effort. He was working in an office while he was studying law. I learned from him that he went through hard times after the Spanish Civil War.

I found that his enthusiasm led him to support associations in favour of workers' rights, which were forbidden at that time. He was a very honest and brave person, risking his own life in favour of freedom of expression, defending other people's interests without obtaining any economic benefit.

His deep convictions about justice, social equality, religious belief, and the welfare of people made him successful in his profession as well as in his private life.
