WRITING TEMA 5: The Story Of Converse
Converse got their name because Marquis Converse started Converse Company and the Company was named after him. In those days there weren't good sports shoes so they became the first shoes made from rubber and canvas. In the 1920s Converse became more popular when some basketball players started wearing them. They were called Converse All Star. Later, the official NBA shoes were very popular. Also, they were popular with artists and musicians. At the end of the 90's, Converse shoes were less popular and the company had economic problems. So, the Company was sold to Nike in 2003. 950 million pairs were sold by 2008. They are popular again. They are produced in many different styles.
WRITING TEMA 6: Spending My Time
My name is Jorge Lantada and I'm a student in Carrión, in Palencia. I’m studying in IES SEM TOB.
I'm interested in football, tennis, and Formula One, because they are interesting sports. The most important thing in my life is my studies, because they are very important for my future. At school, I'm most of the time with my mates, who are very friendly. My family and friends are the most important people in my life. The thing that I like best is riding a bike.
I think that the world is a bad place, because I'm not optimistic. There are too many wars and diseases. Also, rich countries don't share their richness with poor countries and these things make me angry. I think that we should change it, help other people, and be less selfish.
As far as the future is concerned, it sometimes worries me that young people don't have a job and the future of my country, which is a bit pessimistic. But I hope that it improves in a few years. About my future, I think that it's good.
WRITING TEMA 7: Changing Laws
The government plans to introduce a new law in which schools will open also on Saturday. With this law, the government aims to improve the level of education.
In my view, this would have many negative consequences and wouldn't guarantee that education would get any better. In the first place, I believe that weekends are really important for students to rest from their classes and to prepare themselves for the week to come. So, if this law is introduced, I've no doubt that a lot of students won't get any better results in their exams.
It's unfair because, as far as I know, many students need both Saturday and Sunday to rest and to study for their exams. If the aim of the government is to improve the level of education, it seems to me that a better alternative is to change the educational system. If the classes were more dynamic and interesting, based on practical experiences, students would be happier to learn abstract concepts.
