4. Lectura i Gramàtica en Context

Recently, I have read (read) some of the stories my parents used to read to me. Before I started reading them, I had forgotten (forget) how interesting some of them were. I think my favourite is The Drop of Honey, an Iranian story. It starts with a hunter who has been walking (walk) in the mountains with his dog. In a cave, he finds some honey. He packs it in his bag and thinks, “I’ll sell this honey and then I’ll buy some food.” In the next town, he tries to sell some honey in the market and a drop falls to the ground. Flies come to eat the honey, birds arrive to eat the flies, a cat kills the birds and the hunter’s dog kills the cat, which belongs to the market trader. When the trader sees (see) this, he kills the dog, and then the hunter kills the trader. The hunter is then killed by the people of the town. As soon as the people from the hunter’s town find out (find out), a war starts. So, if the hunter hadn’t spilled (spill) that one drop of honey, the war wouldn’t have started (start). The meaning of the story is clear. Huge wars can start because of little incidents. I’ll read this story to my children in the future. The next generation will make (make) the same mistakes as past generations unless we teach them how to live better lives.
