ADVANCED GERUNDS AND INFINITIVES

to + inf (afford, agree, happen, manage, pretend, refuse, regret, tend, threaten)

+ grnd (avoid, be worth, can't help, can't stand, deny, imagine, involve, look forward to, miss, practise, regret, risk, suggest)

+ infinitive without to (had better, needn't, can, must, should, rather)

Remember, forget, regret (to / gerund)

• being + past participle: actions done to the subject in progress in the past
• be + past participle: actions done to the subject in the past
• having + past participle i to have + past participle: action completed or in the past
• to have + past participle: after would love, like, hate, prefer, rather to talk about an earlier action
• to be + gerund: in progress

Present and future forms

• Present continuous: acords i arranjaments
• Be going to: plans personals, sense acord previ
• Was / were going to: pla futur vist des del passat
• Future continuous [will / won't + be + gerund]: en progrés en el futur (també en un moment concret), passarà de totes maneres, peticions
• Present simple: horaris

Other ways of expressing future arrangements

• Be due to + infinitive: quelcom s'espera en un moment determinat (també significa 'esperat')
• Be about to + infinitive: quelcom passarà molt aviat (sense hora concreta); també be on the point of + gerund
• Be + to + infinitive: plans oficials

Elipsi

ELLIPSIS

Després de connectors

• After and, but, or: subjecte repetit o s + verb auxiliar. Then també compta com a connector.
• After before, after, because, when i while: NO podem eliminar el pronom subjecte.

Elipsi després d'auxiliars o amb infinitius

1. Eliminar el verb o adjectiu repetit i repetir només l'auxiliar, el verb modal o el verb be.
2. Usar un verb diferent del que no és a la primera part de la frase.
3. Eliminar una frase verbal repetida després de l'infinitiu amb to (reduir l'infinitiu).

Elipsi amb so i not

• Positiu: so després de verbs de pensament (assume, believe, expect, guess, hope, imagine, presume, reckon, suppose, think) i també després de be afraid, appear / seem i say.
• Negatiu: [verb positiu + not] o [verb negatiu + so].
