Estilo Indirecto (Reported Speech)

Cuando usamos el estilo indirecto, normalmente cambiamos los tiempos verbales, los pronombres y las expresiones de tiempo y lugar:

• Cambios en los tiempos verbales:
  • Presente simple cambia a Pasado simple (am/is/are - was/were)
  • Presente continuo cambia a Pasado continuo (is reading - was reading)
  • Pasado simple cambia a Pasado perfecto (worked - had worked)
  • Futuro simple (will) cambia a Condicional simple (would) (will go - would go)
  • Futuro con 'may' cambia a Pasado con 'might' (may - might)
• Cambios en las expresiones de tiempo y lugar:
  • Today cambia a that day
  • Now cambia a then
  • Yesterday cambia a the previous day o the day before
  • Here cambia a there
  • Tomorrow cambia a the following day o the next day
  • This cambia a that

Verbos Modales en Inglés: Uso y Ejemplos Clave

CAN

CAN indica habilidad o posibilidad. Se traduce como "poder" en español.

Ejemplos:

• We can work late tonight if you need us. (Podemos trabajar hasta tarde esta noche si nos necesitas.)
• Can I have a glass of water? (¿Puedo tomar un vaso de agua?)

COULD

COULD indica posibilidad o habilidad en el pasado. También se utiliza para peticiones educadas.

Ejemplos:

• Joe could speak Spanish when he was young. (Joe podía hablar español cuando era joven.)
• Could you pass the salt, please? (¿Podría pasarme la sal, por favor?)

MAY / MIGHT

Al igual que could, se usa MAY o MIGHT para indicar posibilidades en el futuro o para pedir permiso de manera formal.

• **No Definientes (Non-defining):** Llevan comas.

Estructura Formal e Informal

• **Formal:** La preposición va antes del pronombre relativo y se usa *whom* en vez de *who*.

FOX HUNTING: the spain government passed a law prohibiting fox hunting. Some people feel that they should not have passed this law, but I agree with it .On the one hand, fox hunting has been a spain tradition for hundreds of years. It has been proudly passed on from generation to generation. Furthermore there are too many foxes in spain and they often attack farm animals, so hunting helps the farmers by keeping the fox population down.

In addition, fox hunting is cruel and ignores the Rights of animals. It is true that the fox population is too large.
